Building Process Steps

The construction of a new home differs from other manufacturing processes in several ways. By keeping these differences in mind, you can enjoy observing the construction process as we build your new home.

  • As a consumer, you rarely have the opportunity to watch as the products you purchase are created. Your new Key Land home is created in front of you.
  • You have more opportunity for input into the design and finish details of a new home than for most other products. Our success in personalizing your home depends on effective and timely communication of your choices.
  • Because of the time required for construction, you have many opportunities to view your home as it is built, ask questions, and discuss details.

Perhaps the most common question that our buyers have is “How long will it take to build my new home?”

Minneapolis MN new home builder, Key Land Homes will provide you with an initial rough estimate of when we expect to have your new home completed when your purchase order is accepted. And as your home nears completion we will update you on the estimated delivery. However, until the closing is scheduled and a final delivery date is known any number of factors can impact the time required to build you new home. These include: weather, materials availability, complexity of the plan, change orders, inspections, etc.

While no home follows the same schedule, the following is a summary of the process we use when building your new home:

Month 1:

  • Purchase agreement signed
  • “Okay To Start”
  • Redline blueprint/Final plan changes
  • Lot survey

Month 2:

  • Homebuyer makes selections
  • Final blueprint approved
  • Building permits secured
  • Lot prep and excavation
  • Foundation

Month 3 & 4:

  • Framing and framing walkthrough
  • Rough-in electrical, heating, plumbing
  • Framing walk-through with homebuyer and Key Land
  • Exterior siding & trim
  • Insulation
  • Sheetrock

Month 5 & 6:

  • Finish interior: trim, cabinets, fixtures
  • Mechanical finals: electrical, plumbing, HVAC
  • Install flooring
  • Paint
  • Homeowner orientation/ Final walk-through
  • Closing
